The exchange rate shown in this tool is the "mid-market rate" — the midpoint between the buy and sell rates in the interbank market. Banks and exchange services add a profit margin of 1-5% above this rate when you actually transfer your money.

Some currencies are pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate that never changes. The UAE Dirham AED is fixed at 3.6725 per dollar, the Qatari Riyal QAR at 3.64, and the Bahraini Dinar BHD at 0.376. These rates do not move regardless of market fluctuations.

When sending remittances, always calculate the total cost: exchange rate spread + fixed transfer fees + receiving fees on some services. Sometimes the service with the better rate charges higher fixed fees, making it more expensive for smaller amounts.

Tips for Smart Currency Exchange

Tool Rate ≠ What You Will Actually Receive

The rates shown are mid-market rates. Banks and exchange offices apply an additional margin. Use the tool for planning and comparison, not for calculating the exact transfer amount.

Avoid Airport Exchange Counters

Airport exchange counters apply margins up to 10-15% above market rate. Exchange a small amount for emergencies at the airport and complete the rest at banks or licensed exchanges.

International Bank Cards Are Cheaper Abroad

Many credit and debit cards apply exchange rates closer to market rate with low fixed fees. Compare your options before traveling.

Track Fluctuations for Non-Pegged Currencies

Currencies like the Egyptian Pound and Turkish Lira fluctuate significantly. If you are waiting to transfer a large sum, monitor the rate daily to choose the best timing.

Calculate the Total Transfer Cost

Exchange rate spread + transfer fees + receiving fees = total actual cost. Compare the total cost across several services before choosing the cheapest option for your specific amount.
